Solution:
First, the Professeur stifles the fuse with an withering barrage of carefully aimed spittle, extinguishing the flame entirely. The Rifle pointed at his head is, it turns out, an obvious fake and doesn't go off. The ropes aren't particularly strong either, so the Professeur manages to free his arm and grab his machine-gun, with which he massacres the tigers.
